Tirzepatide is a drug to treat type 2 diabetes which has also been found to result in significant weight loss. It is manufactured by the drug company Eli Lilly and it has been approved by the FDA for treatment of type 2 diabetes, with the trade name Mounjaro.

So far, the tirzepatide FDA approval is for the use of treating type 2 diabetes. According to SURPASS-2 clinical trials, it has shown to be very effective in treating type 2 diabetes, especially when compared to other drugs on the market, such as semaglutide.
Weight loss
Although tirzepatide is not technically approved by the FDA for weight loss, it is an extremely effective weight loss drug. Based on the results of the SURMOUNT-1 clinical trial, if tirzepatide was approved for weight loss, it would likely become the most effective weight loss drug available.
