GW 0742, a PPARβ (peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor β) ligand. Activation of PPARβ has been reported to exhibit neuroprotective properties. GW 0742 has been shown to reduce serum levels of cardiac troponin-I, reduce levels of free fatty acids, enhance expression of interleukin (IL)-6, IL-8, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1, and intracellular adhesion molecule-1. Further studies have confirmed the anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic effects of GW 0742.
